An african pope would be so cooool. I also am amused at the American attitude that we are the only ones on the planet and that we should be catered to without taking anyone else into consideration. I am ashamed of my country for this...that and our incredible ignorance and consumerism: http://www.chrisjordan.com/ Eternal Sunshine was way better than Titanic. I liked Titanic for the hats. I loved Eternal Sunshine for the various hair colours and crazy story line. I'm waiting for this technology to come along to see how many idiots would line up for it. all it takes is one high profile celebrity to do it, then they all follow right off the cliff. this is starting to turn into my next diaryland entry!

You can't go wrong with funny hats... (Was that staement about Benedict XVI or Titanic? You decide)

Anyway, I am pretty oppossesd to out of control consumeism, but then again, I'm an out of control consumer, so my disgust is rather hypocritical.

There was snarky commentary. There were cheesy graphics. But the best part is that I forgot to pay for my cable, so I didn't have to watch any of it. Pure bliss. Except for the whole missing America's Next Top Model thing. I love that show far more than I should.

I sense a grudge match:
America's Next Top Model vs. The Church's Next Top Pontif!

I think the good money's on Ratzinger. He has friends in high places.

Don't worry Crate, this pope is no more than 2 years away from death. You'll get your snarky commentary and graphics next time.

Don't tell me you've started a pool already, E-Beth!

Not yet. But only because I haven't finished manipulating pictures of him yet. As soon as I get that done it's time for bets.

Are you going to send him vaguely threatening IMs, too, E-Beth?

Me, I think if you get to be his age, you are no longer a legit target for photochopping. But that's just me.

I was actually a little thankful for all the moronic Americans who were whining that the new Pope wasn't in line with their church. Uh, who's church? I was under the impression it was God's. Any rate, seeing their disgusting behavior pointed out a thing or two to me, along the lines of what we've talked about in emails. Seeing this behavior in them turned a light on me and my wanting things to make sense to MY way of thinking. Doesn't mean I won't still struggle, but it does change my perspective.

Did you ever email Brenna Kate?

I could write a book about this stuff... and don't think this is an idle threat!

Or at least a lot of comments...

Anyway, you know how to reach me.

It's possible Crate. I'm not claiming to be mature.

I hear his screen name is BigPapaPope1063.

I didn't like Garden State or Eternal Sunshine. Why? Garden State was laden with gratuitous symbolism (which I can't fucking stand) and Eternal Sunshine was lacking something...I'm not sure what. I think the bar of good movies has dropped to a minimum. We've been bombarded with crap like Men in Black and Anacondas that when movies like these come out, we think, "oh, it's brilliant!" Except for me...because I'm a snob. Love, Liza is EXCELLENT. Depressing, but great. Happiness is also great. I like movies with no likeable characters. Ex: Your Friends and Neighbors, and In the Company of Men. Two excellent films.

Happiness was fantastic. Although I will never watch it again. It was fantastic but fundamentally disturbing. I think your theory about why people go ga-ga over these thoroughly mediocre films is on target. I find our ideas intruiging and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
