I gave it a go. I got as far as page three and I had to stop. I can't read something by someone who spends so much time being angry at others for being self righteous by being so self righteous and single minded.

I think there is real danger in people with no medical or scientific background believing that they know better than someone who has made that their lifes calling.

If I see my house falling down I don't tell the contractor where the beams go. I can have a gut feeling, I can have what I believe to be logic on my side, but I don't have an understanding of all the things he does. I let him put the supports where time, and the experience of hundreds of thousands of those before him suggest they should go.

People all want antibiotics, but no one wants to hear the truth, giving antibiotics when they aren't going to ULTIMATELY be of value degrades the usefulness of that antibiotic for every other person on the planet. The choice to give antibiotics to someone who clearly will not benefit from them in the end is an irresponsible one made by a doctor who is more interested in clearing away childish lawsuits than in real medicine.

I want to go on and on, about people demanding that fevers be eliminated when fevers are purposeful and necessary and more but I'll leave it here, I think you get my take on this. Doctors aren't infallible, and if you feel like the care you are recieving isn't what it should be then by all means seek another opinion, but demanding what you think you DESERVE is not the same as receiving what is best.

I'd like an exception - I have enough to read as it is.

Oomm - Well, I agree with your points, but the article was about much more than just the application of anti-biotics. Later on he gives examples of refusal to treat pain, witholding treatments which would be effective but weren't given because the people were deemed "unfit" to receive treatment because they were too old or had impaired cognitive functions. Anyway, the point he was trying to make was that there is a certain ideology which has invaded the way doctors think which has nothing to do with medical science at all. Anyway, check out the guys bio - he may not have medical training but he has learned to do his homework.

Your Primate Highness - I hearby grant you an exemption based on your royal blood.

Jen- Thanks for the support, but I still feel hypocritical about that...

I saw the same thing you are seeing in this article, crate. I'm not surprised, but disgusted nonetheless. People walking closer and closer to the edge of no return, and others either looking the other way or blindly cheering them on all along the way. You know as well as I do, that they have to step into the circle of trust and relationship that we have before they will ever see it for what it truly is.

Don't let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. - Col.2:8

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this, ag.

I read more stories about good Samaritans being sued by the people they help and find myself completely unsurprised that no one is willing to override protocol.

I suppose it's true, but what really scares me, golfwidow, is that an ideology of neglect for human life is spreading throughout the medical establishment.
